A very solid example of a buff leather saber belt used by the Dragoons, Cavalry, and Light Artillery troopers. Outside leather was dyed black and inside was left as issued. Saber straps, shoulder strap, and all brass hardware is present. Leather is soft and supple. Stitching is intact and belt retains correct cast brass enlisted eagle plate. Cartridge pouch is for .44 caliber revolver cartridges. This style cartridge pouch has single outside flap, with no tins. Belt loop and Riveted and sewn belt and latch tab is riveted and sewn. Brass finial is present and solid. Inspector mark is still legible on the front flap and reads: "T. F. SHEPARD" in script, along with "US" also in script stamp. Maker stamped to bottom of the flap, "J .DAVY & CO. NEWARK N.J." Holster is standard issue cavalry model for the M1860 Colt .44 or Remington "Army" model revolvers and is in solid condition with tight stitching overall.
