Standard US Civil War issue rifle. Features all metal in the white, three barrel bands, lockplate dated 1862 with Springfield eagle, "VP" proofs on left side of barrel, post front sight, two leaf rear sight, sling swivels and near mint full length walnut stock with no visible cartouche. An 1862 Indian head penny has been set into left side of stock. CONDITION: All metal surfaces have been cleaned bright. There is some pitting on tang, and lockplate stamps are light. Wood has usual bumps and was sanded. Dark bore. Comes with period cleaning rod and bayonet. If you are looking for a battle worn Civil War rifle to display, this is it.
