June 12-13, 2019 Edged Weapon, Armor, & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2019
Lot consists of: Group of four World War II Japanese Type 4 Ceramic grenades, with a variety of different colors and glazing. No fuze or rubber seal are present. The Type 4 was reportedly part of the Japanese plan to outfit every home with a rifle and grenades, pending the expected Allied invasion. Made by local pottery facilities, the Type 4 is the best known of several designs. As they were intended for defense of the homeland, they were not seen by Allied forces until the invasion of Okinawa. These are all in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The variety of colors and glazing is a good representation of the many varieties of this grenade.
