Developed during World War II to replace the Stielhandgranate 24, the German Stielhandgranate 43 simplified the manufacturing process by using the BZE fuze from the egg grenade and placing the fuzing on the top of the body, rather than the bottom. This eliminated the need to drill the stick for a pull cord and allowed for manufacture of one fuze design rather than two. This grenade is in excellent condition. The stick has very minor dings and has the normal stamped markings near the junction with the body. The grenade body has no corrosion, and the paint, with no markings, has only slight scratches where the frag sleeve has been removed. The fuze is present and has nice paint as well. As with the model 24, if desired the M43 could be used with a variety of fragmentation sleeves. The fragmentation sleeve included here is the serrated type, and has light surface corrosion. A very desirable grenade.
