Lot consists of two U.S. Civil War swords. (A) Model 1860 Cavalry Officers Sword with unmarked blade, Leather grip with twisted brass wire. Hilt and guard is made of brass. Guard is relief cast with military small arms. Pommel and bottom of guard cast with a shield over an eagle. Complete with scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is in great condition with light spotting running the length of the blade. Leather grip is obliterated, showing little leather left with mostly wood showing through the brass wires. Hilt is in poor condition with a dent in the guard and the knucklebow being loose from the bottom of the grip. Hilt shows some areas turning a brown patina. Scabbard is in good condition with light corrosion showing a third of the way from the base. (B) Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber manufactured by Ames in 1848. Left side of ricasso reads "N.P. Ames/Cabotville/ 1848". Right side reads "U.S./WD". Leather grip does not retain twisted brass wire. Hilt and pommel are made of brass. Complete with scabbard. CONDITION: Blade is in good condition showing cleaned areas of spotting and corrosion the length of the blade. Leather grip is in fair condition showing wear and a crack about 1 - 1/2" in length on the left side. Hilt and pommel show handling marks all around. Areas on the hilt and pommel have begun turning a brown patina. Scabbard is in poor condition showing corrosion all around.
