For another example of this identical pattern, see plate 48.S on page 77 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. He dates this pattern to between 1770 and 1785. Slightly curved blade with narrow partial fuller near top on each side. Two branch guard and integral knucklebow of brass. Birds head pommel with capstan and integral with backstrap. Leather wrapped grip with twisted brass wire in grooves. This pattern is associated with both naval and infantry troops. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with scattered "battle" nicks in edge. Brass retains a dark unpolished patina. Most of original brown leather is present with only a few minor losses and some of wire wrap is absent. A very nice example.
