The one piece skull with roped comb etched with strap work, flamberge, and Roman helmet, all on a punched ground. Further enhanced with pebbled black bands and further trophies of arms. The visor, etched and gilt with blackened bands en suite. The buff etched and gilt with blackened bands once again en suite. The front gorget of two plates etched and gilt with blackened bands and the rear gorget plate of one piece, etched and gilt. CONDITION: All gilding of recent date, etching possibly of more recent date than helmet. Blackened finish also of more recent date. This appears to be a period helmet that has been decorated and upgraded in the 19th century. Still most attractive. Weight: 5 pounds 9 oz. Interior rough from the hammer.
