Lot consists of: (A) Large wooden, early 19th century cheese-box camp canteen. 8-3/4" diameter. Both sides branded "CN". Held together with two iron bands connected by a series of iron wire loops, which hold in place a leather sling with an iron buckle. CONDITION: Some damage to mouthpiece, as well as a couple of 1/4" gaps between planks due to shrinkage and scattered areas of worm damage. Brands are very good. Leather sling has some cracking to surface. (B) Small tin canteen, oval in shape, measuring 6" tall including mouthpiece. Decorated with yellow paint and the front with the initials "HRG" as well as a Federal eagle clasping a snake. Retains approximately 70-80% original paint with some losses in high areas and along sides. (C) A plain, Civil War era tin canteen measuring approximately 5-1/2" diameter with threaded tin cap and three tin loops along sides for sling. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing grey patina with some minor denting to convex faces.
