Lot contains: (A) US WWII 501st PIR veteran grouping, and (B) US WWII 1st Ranger Battalion veteran grouping. (A) Veteran grouping to Staff Sergeant Raymond R. Edgell who served with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, and died as a result of his wounds in combat on September 24, 1944. The grouping includes the original Purple Heart document dated April 11, 1949, his Purple Heart medal, which was not engraved, and a photo of him. Also included is a photo copy of two War Department documents: a Battle Casualty Report and a Report of Death. There is also a 101st Airborne patch, a photo copy of two obituaries, and a letter dated January 7, 1943 from the veteran to his parents while he was training at Camp Taccoa, Georgia. CONDITION: Overall very good. (B) Veteran grouping to Master Sargeant Nazar Kalashian who served with the 1st Ranger Battalion during WWII and passed away in 2000. The lot includes part of the right sleeve of his uniform with M/SGT stripes, a 5th Army patch with "Africa, Sicily, and Italy" hand-sewn on it, and a hand-sewn Ranger tab. A helmet liner is included with his name, rank, and unit painted in gold on the front. Lot also includes a cased Silver Star, cased Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation ribbon, and six other ribbons. Silver Star and Purple Heart are not engraved to the veteran. Included are numerous documents, mostly photo copies, which document his awards, and military career. CONDITION: Overall very good.
