The deep blue fluted octagonal barrel with flat sighting rib, elaborate adjustable front sight, is silver inlaid at breech. Action with deep, almost relief, engraving. Action featuring on the left side, a lion, spewing out engraving and leaves and on the right side, what appears to be a human face with angel's wings. Action inlaid in silver on the underside "System Stahl No. 5798". Trigger guard, buttplate, screws deeply engraved en suite. Elaborate adjustable orthoptic sight. The schuetzen style buttstock and forestock, deeply carved, with foliage and checkered at the wrist. Ramrod appears to be an original. Underside of buttstock with German silver shield 1934 date, 20th Deutches Bundteschiezzen Leipschig. Paper label affixed to right side of stock with 1943 date. CONDITION: Barrel is good, retaining most of what appears to be its original finish. Action is patinated but shows little or no wear. Wood retains considerable of what appears to be original varnish with only minor marks. Breech tang is cracked at one retaining screw. Operates correctly with an excellent bore. CORRECTION: The cheekrest is not original to the gun and the barrel has been relined.
