Lot consists of (A) with 49" blade, 69" overall. Has what appears to be a period guard. Cutting blade itself is 36" long. Waisted grip remnants of old fabric covering. Hexagonal pommel of iron. Blade is much later than the guard. CONDITION: Blade with light rust, guard with deep age patination and pierced fluer-de-lis decoration, well forged. Pommel showing some age. Overall an acceptable example of a composite processional sword. (B) is a modern cast reproduction with a 39 - 1/2" blade, 72" overall with wire wrapped grip. CONDITION: Blackened from the casting process. PROVENANCE: FORMER COLLECTION OF THE NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART.
