Lot consists of: (A) J.H. Merrill Civil War Carbine 1st Type percussion breechloader. Lock is marked “J.H. Merrill Balto Pat. July.1858. April.9 May 21-28-61”. Patchbox has spare nipple. Walnut stock. Saddle ring and bar. Brass buttplate, trigger guard and patchbox. Patent on top of frame. CONDITION: Metal is smooth grey patina. Strong bore with residue that should clean nicely. Walnut stock is good with added finish, many chips and some chipping along both sides of forend. (B) Enfield type English carbine circa mid-1850's, percussion. English proofed barrel, lock is proofed but no maker. Walnut stock, twin barrel bands, swivel ramrod. CONDITION: Clean bore, no rifling. Metal is grey patina. Stock is excellent with small crack left forearm easily repaired. "44" stamped on left side and wrist, "51 AlA. Cav" stamped on right side and stock revarnished. These stamps do not appear to be vintage. Action fine.
