Very large and possibly unique cartridge board/display cabinet measuring 31" wide by 72" tall plus the arched pediment top. Constructed of wood with a glass front. The interior houses an arrowhead shaped shield covered in a blue/grey velvet like material outlined with a white roping. The shield measures 23 - 1/2" by 53". Hand painted in gold lettering above the shield, reads" NOBELS / SPORTING AMMUNITION" below the shield reads: "GLASGOW & LONDON". Mounted to the shield are dozens of paper shotgun shells with private labeling which reads: "T. STENSBY & CO.." along with proprietary names such as: "NITRO", "EMPIRE", "KINGSWAY","NONEKA", "AJAX", "CLYDE", "UNITRO", and "REGENT". The wood arched pediment top has hand painted gold lettering with black shadowing that reads five lines: "T, STENSBY & CO./GUN, RIFLE & /CARTRIDGE MAKERS./12, WITHY GROVE, MANCHESTER./ESTD. 1810" The overall height including the pediment top is 64-inches total. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Hand painted lettering is clear with no distortion. The wood has a very nice undisturbed patina. A most impressive display that would be the centerpiece of the finest English shotgun collection. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Nathan Posner, former owner of the San Francisco Gun Exchange and most recently on display at the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum of Cody, Wyoming. Accompanied by a photocopy of the February 1972 publication of Selling Sporting Goods "On The Ecene" section, where Nathan Posner, the owner of the San Francisco Gun Exchange, is photographed standing with this board after he took it into his possession. -MKS-
