Lot consists of: (A) A beautiful set of fighting knives, each slightly different yet complimenting each other well. The first is a small fighter, with its original double edge, "Ron Gaston" over "Woodruff, SC" signature etch, and hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters. The tapered and straight-shaped full tang is lined with dovetailed and pinned woolly mammoth ivory scales with red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: The knife is unused. Slight shrinkage of the handles have resulted in two pin cracks on the mark side handle. Also evident are a few tiny scuffs on the mark side bolster edge. (B) The second fighter features a spear point blade with its original double edge, "Ron Gaston" over "Woodruff, SC" signature etch, and hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters. The tapered full tang is covered with a beautiful set of dovetailed and pinned oosic scales with red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: Knife presents as new, with a small chip on the reverse scale, some very light handling marks, and a small natural void at the end of the handle. (C) The last knife is a long, elegant fighter with its original double edge, "Ron Gaston" over "Woodruff, SC" signature etch, and hand rubbed finish on both blade and bolsters. The tapered full tang is lined with a lovely set of dovetailed and mosaic pinned bone handles with red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: The handles have shrunk moderately, resulting in a large pin crack on the mark side scale, as well as small cracks at the other three pins. Ron Gaston of Woodruff, South Carolina was a knifemaker for close to 25 years when he passed away in 2006. A dairy farmer by trade, Mr. Gaston became an extremely prolific maker and was featured within many cutlery publications at the height of his career. A proud member of the Knifemakers' Guild, his knives are very well established and continue to be collected around the world.
