Large spear point blade with "Spanish notch", forged bolster, fuller, decorative notches in spine; etched panel on obverse reads PATENT and panel on reverse with floral details, the blade's face is stamped SAM'L BROMLEY SHEFFIELD. Ebony handle with nearly 200 inlaid silver pins forming decorative pattern, large horse head pommel and floral pattern ferrule of nickel silver. No sheath. Possibly an exhibition piece in light of its decorative pique work and size. c.1840s. Samuel Bromley was active beginning in approximately 1837; by 1851 he'd left Sheffield to become a farmer. CONDITION: Blade in antique mint condition with original glazed polish, except for a few scattered spots. No damage to trim or handle.
