Lot consists of: (A) A very handsome, large upswept blade skinner with dropped point, this knife features its original edge, stylized "Montjoy" etch and a hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters. The full tapered tang is highlighted with dovetailed, pinned burlwood handle scales and red liners. No sheath. CONDITION: The knife presents as unused. The wood handles have shrunk slightly resulting in one pin spall on the front scale. (B) The accompanying knife is a narrow trailing point blade skinner, featuring its original edge, stylized "Montjoy" etch and a hand rubbed finish on the blade and bolsters. The fileworked full tapered tang is surrounded by dovetailed, two-finger grip burlwood handle scales with mosaic pins. No sheath. CONDITION: The knife is unused. The bolsters show some light handling marks, while the handles have shrunk slightly. There is a small amount of separation of the handles from the liners, which is located at the butt end of the knife on the mark side. Claude Montjoy of Clinton, South Carolina was a knifemaker for almost 30 years when he passed away in 2011 at the age of 74. A member of the South Carolina Association of Knifemakers, Mr. Montjoy was highly skilled in his craft, creating a large variety of styles and types including slipjoints, interframes, hunters and fighters.
