Unique bowie knife with hand forged upswept blade, engraved on the obverse with a hunter shooting a rifle at two deer, pursued by dogs, and on the reverse with two Indians hunting a buffalo from horseback, one armed with a rifle and the other a spear. This decoration is unusual and is the work of a highly skilled hand. The knife's guard and pommel are of iron or steel, and are nickel plated along with the tang. The bone scales are crudely checkered and attached with three brass pins. No sheath. c. 1830s-1860s. CONDITION: Blade is in good condition, lightly used with scattered spotting, nickel plating is about 60% intact, the handles are uncracked.
