Stag Handled Sheffield "California Knife". Classic clip point blade deeply etched CALIFORNIA KNIFE, stamped on ricasso "E. B....S & Co. SHEFFIELD" (perhaps Edward Barnes & Co., c.1829-1885). Stag scales on cast brass handle frame with integral guard and pommel, nickel silver escutcheon. No sheath. Circa 1849-1850s. CONDITION: Blade with light use and with scattered pitting, the handle scales missing two small chips.
