9'x13'. The Nagato was Admiral Yamamoto's flagship on the fateful day of December 7th, 1941. It was also present at the Battle of Midway, the Philippine Sea, Leyte Gulf, and ended up docked at the Yokusuka Naval Base in Tokyo. Flag was found in a locker on the Nagato by Machinst's Mate Third Class John H. Zerrenner on the U.S.S. Wren DD568 on 2nd of September, 1945. Flag was then purchased directly from Zerrenner in 1993. Included is myriad documentation on Mr. Zerrenner and the Nagato, confirming that Zerrenner was active in the Pacific Theatre, copies of the Wren's ship log confirming that it entered Tokyo Bay August 31st, 1945 and was present for the surrender ceremonies, a muster roll confirming that Zerrenner was attached to the Wren when it was in Tokyo Bay, and histories of the Wren and the Nagato. CONDITION: Flag is relatively good with some smoke and oil stains and a few tears. This is a rare and historic relic that likely flew at various times from the mast of Admiral Yamamoto's battleship Nagato.
A RARE AND HISTORIC JAPANESE FLAG, FLOWN FROM THE MAST OF THE FAMOUS JAPANESE BATTLESHIP NAGATO.
