This gun was part of a shipment of 300 pistols to Captain Sir Connop Guthrie on February 21st, 1918 in New York on behalf of the British Government for use in the first World War. 13,300 units in total were provided to the British, many of those issued to the RAF, some stamped. British proofs on the left side of the frame and slide, as well as on the barrel. Proper .455 marked magazine with lanyard ring, however the number is not matching. W series serial number. PROVENANCE: This gun is accompanied by a Colt factory letter and a brief biographical sketch of Captain Sir Connop Guthrie. CONDITION: Retains 85% of a British arsenal finish with holster wear to high edges. Legends are sharp. Checkered diamond wood grips show normal light wear. Bore shows typical wear with visible rifling and some fine pitting. Fine mechanical function. The original barrels and magazines for this rare Colt sell for around 1500 a set when and if you can find them.
