Lot consists of: (A) Sidehammer percussion pistol with engraved brass frame, blued octagonal barrel, signed on top flat Egg, London. Checkered bag grip with German silver escutcheon, blue trigger guard. Egg was one of the most famous and iconic of all gun makers in England at the time and renowned throughout the world CONDITION: Retains considerable traces of original bright blue on barrel, trigger guard, and hammer. Action is stiff but functional. Checkered grip retains some original varnish, good checkering. Bores are fair. (B) Pepperbox of characteristic form with double action and bar hammer with rudimentary engraving, checkered grips. Butt period engraved "W.G. Tacey, Surgeon, Bradford". CONDITION: Good, action operates properly. Patinated throughout with raised rust on one barrel, will clean. Grips slightly undersized but rate good. Bores are fair. An interesting lot for the collector of 19th century English pistols and further research on Surgeon Tacey should prove rewarding. It is a good guess that he was a military surgeon and this was his personal side-arm.
