For a very similar example with these markings, see figures 427 and 428 on pages 478-480 of "American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords" by Daniel D. Hartlzer. Pelletreu worked both in South Hampton, New York and Simsbury, Connecticut. The tapered triangular blade is inlaid with a gold floral design near the top, on the back. The solid silver hilt is marked with partially visible "EP" on the top edge on the right side of the clam shell guard. The knucklebow is also stamped "EP" twice on the left side. The grip is tightly wrapped with alternating strands of twisted and braided silver wire, both ends have a braided silver ferrule. The sword is complete with a black leather scabbard, which shows several repairs a an iron hanger. CONDITION: Blade retains a dark brown patina with some minor nicks to on right side. Hilt retains a mellowing patina, showing some wear and scattered marks. Grip shows one area on upper right side that has been flattened. Scabbard has some repairs and replaced leather, tip is absent. A very nice American sword by a rare maker. DMG
