World War II trunk containing the effects of Lt. Elvin Gerard who was a navigator on a B-17 assigned to the 452nd Bomb Group. Group consists of: Fleece lined AN6553 AN J4 flight jacket with name tag on the front reading "Lt E. Gerard", jacket shows general wear and splits on the upper back; Type A-3 fleece lined flying trouser's with soft pliable leather, but showing splits in the leather at the zippers; "Mae West" life preserver dated Jan 7, 1943, complete with die markers and beacon lamps; Officer's visor cap with stiffener removed, missing its sweatband; Private purchase B-2 cap; Boeing Model B-17G Field Service Manual, dated Jan, 1945; Leather Pilot's Navigation Kit with working zippers; USAAC 16mm GSAP Camera and film magazine; Emergency beacon lamp; Headset; Empty cardboard box for E-1 goggles lenses; 20 3-3/8" X 4-3/8" original photographs of B-17's and fighter planes in flight and dropping bombs; "Life in the Service " album measuring 6" X 9", containing newspaper clippings, photographs, notes, a "short snorter" with five bank notes taped together and a diary which documents each of his 35 bombing missions with entries such as: "January 15, 1945 - Augsburg, A very fatal day - while turning around to come back home, we were badly hit - Shorty Wyatt was killed - Tex Burrell and Walt Jankowski was injured - it was a wonder any of us returned" and "February 3, 1945 - Berlin, Moderate flak, I never saw so many planes at one time in all my life - Berlin was a mass of smoke"; Tablet with a photo of Hedy Lamarr on the front; Unopened pack of Camel cigarettes; Khaki garrison cap; Two issues of "Yank" magazine. Group is housed in a regulation trunk, on which is stenciled "Lt. Gerard, Elvin, O-2062734, U.S. Army Air Corps". CONDITION: Unless noted, most items in very good showing general service wear. DG
