Alonzo Seldon crafted finely built rifles during the 1860's until his death in 1874 in Whitehall, New York. These rifles were widely used during the War Between the States on both sides of the Mason-Dixon. They were also popular bench rifles among target shooters at that time. It features a heavy full octagon barrel. The lock is engraved with fine game scene but not maker marked. The barrel is stamped with the maker on left side. It wears a walnut half stock that is hand checkered at the wrist. The mounts are of German silver. The rifle sports double set triggers, a patchbox and rifle buttplate. It wear a nearly full length brass tube sight. The barrel is browned. CONDITION: The barrel remains in a soft brown patina with sharp legends. The stock is excellent with a small repairable crack on left side that measures about 2". The bore, while slightly frosted, still exhibits razor sharp lands. The hammer will not stay cocked and will need a little attention. Overall, a fine Civil War era sniper rifle.
