British proofs on barrel. The lock is marked "H/YOUNG". Mr. Young was an importer in New York operating with that company name from 1820-1830. Brass mounted. These are often referred to as secondary martial pistols. Many times these will be found with "NEW YORK" engraved on the top of the barrel, this gun does not have that marking. Iron barrel. These pistols are referenced on page 312 of HISTORIC PISTOLS; The American Martial Flintlock 1760-1845 by Smith & Bitter. CONDITION: All metal surface retain a pleasing patina, with the lock and barrel having been lightly cleaned some time in the past. Markings are clear. Wood has some dings and handling marks. Bore has light pitting. Tang and grip cap screw appear to be period replacements. Good mechanical function. From the Robert Sadler Collection. GR
