A most intriguing pair of little belt pistols with nickel silver belt hooks and mounts. Buttcaps with trap for percussion caps. The pistols of Deringer style. (A) Octagonal barrels and gilt bands at breech, struck "L. FISHER LYNCHBURG VA" on barrel. Back action lock, with rudimentary engraving. Figured walnut stocks finely checkered at butt. German silver mounts. CONDITION: Barrel with wear to address. Lock has been nickel plated during the period, obscuring the Tryon Philada address. Mounts in fine condition. Stock with crisp checkering and minor marks. (B) Virtually identical to the first. CONDITION: Nickeled barrel of the period obscuring marks. Lock is not plated, with clean markings and engraving. Figured stock with good checkering and a few minor marks. Action on both pistols works. Ramrods have been replaced. Fully rifled barrels with good bores. Modern case with split ring and lid, brass hinges, turn screw, nipple wrench, bullet mold and powder flask, lined in red velvet. Identity of L. Fisher is unknown at time of cataloging. An intriguing set of pistols that may well have Confederate association. These pistols are shown in Doug Eberhart’s book “Deringers in America Vol. I", page 89. Levy Fisher is believed to be related W.B.& C. Fisher, Gunsmiths, Agents, Dealers of Lynchburg, who were a source of arms workers for the Confederacy. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
