Of standard configuration throughout. These Aston pistols are normally found with dates after the Mexican War and to find one with a Mexican War date is unusual. Barrel with usual US, JHP markings. Dated 1847 at tang. Lock with standard marking, dated 1847 at tail. Stock with William A. Thornton cartouche and NWP for Nathan W. Patch. CONDITION: Barrel has minor pitting throughout. Lock is crisp. Cock screw with minor pitting. Cock has a piece broken out at nose. Stock is very good. WAT cartouche particularly legible. Brass mounts in good condition. Action is crisp as new. Bore is good. These Mexican War dated Astons are far more desirable than pistols with later dates. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
