This rifle is one of only a few signed and early rifles by John Young. John Young worked in the Easton area of Lehigh County Pennsylvania in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Rifle has tapered smoothbore octagon barrel with rifle sights and is stamped "JOHN YOUNG". Brass furniture with Young style two piece patchbox with four piercings. Flintlock with single trigger. Plain curly maple stock with ten silver inlays including a Lehigh style "Hunter's star" on the cheek. Flat brass barrel keyes. Original striped ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with stock being heavily sanded and refinished. Metal has been cleaned with some finish applied to the barrel. Lock is a replacement and gun has been reconverted. Mechanically sound. Forestock has joint above tailpipe with wood being added. From the Robert Sadler Collection.
