Original Civil War contract musket made by Alfred Jenks in Bridesburg, PA. Marked on lock "BRIDESBURG" under "U.S.". 1863 date at rear of lockplate. No discernible barrel date, although the V P Eaglehead proofs are clear. Cartouches on left side of stock opposite lock. This gun also has a small oval cartouche in front of the trigger guard, which has been noted on other Bridesburg marked contract muskets. Accompanied by what appears to be an original Civil War era tampion in the muzzle and the original ramrod. CONDITION: Gun is in "as found" condition with a pleasing patina overall mixed with light surface rust and some minor pitting. Markings are clear, except where noted for the barrel date. Wood is sound with dings and handling marks, dirty. There is some discoloration behind the bolster from use. 1 inch crack extending back from the barrel tang into the wrist area. Some slight chipping along the ramrod channel. Bore is dark with rust, no visible rifling. Appears to have been shot out. Good mechanical function. GR
