Made for the Volkssturm or "People's Storm", these late war rifles armed Germany's last line of defense in the closing months of WWII. Receiver manufactured by Steyr in 1945. Metal components are crude, but are mechanically identical to a 98k. Laminated stock with cupped buttplate. The bolt takedown stock disc was replaced with these later models by a hole in the buttplate. Only the barrel is numbered. Receiver is marked with a waffenampt followed by the code "WaA623". Waffenampt on barrel shows no code. Windage adjustable rear sight dovetailed into forward reciever ring. Front sight is a simplified non-adjustable one piece sight for these rare late issue rifles. Finished in a period light grey phosphate finish overall. Complete with canvas sling. CONDITION: Most all phosphate finish remains with a few handling marks. Stock shows minor handling marks. Bore is bright and retains strong rifling throughout. Overall a fine example of Germany's "Last Ditch" rifle, that is sure to be an excellent addition to any WWII enthusiast's collection.
