In 1944, Mossberg received a contract for .22 bolt action rifles for Army training purposes. They continued to supply the Model 44 US to the government through 1949. The rifle featured a blue finish with large proportioned walnut stock with plain pistol grip, metal butt-plate, plastic trigger guard, magazine fed with one magazine, dove-tailed front sight with receiver peep rear sight and sling swivels. The top of frame is stamped US Property. CONDITION: Metal retains approximately 90% blue while stock is excellent. Both show handling marks overall. Bore exhibits strong rifling and action is fine. Nice example of WWII era .22 training rifle.
