Dated 1849. The Model 1842 was the last musket built for the United States military. Seeing service extensively in the Mexican War and the Civil War. Smoothbore 42 inch barrel, caliber .69 with 3 retaining bands and finished in the white. One piece walnut stock with percussion lock dated 1949. Two faded cartouches are barely visible on left side of stock. Fitted with post-Civil War modified sling for early Allen conversion. CONDITION.Very good overall with a pleasant uncleaned appearance. Stock is full sized with visible markings. Bore is dark but will clean. Action is crisp and functional. Barrel and lock have goo markings and legends. Leather sling is supple.
