Incredibly rare Nichols and Lefever high grade gun with likely less than ten or so of this grade known to this cataloger who has actively chased Lefever products for more than 30 years. This particular gun made with extremely fine Damascus barrels with makers name on rib and steel front bead. Splinter forend with tip latch release which is nicely engraved and checkered in point pattern. Beautiful file cut action engraved in tight scroll and game scene engraved in fine early American fashion with large dog busts at back of action. Trigger guard marvelously engraved with Spaniel retrieving fallen duck. Steel capped pistol grip buttstock is checkered in fine point pattern through the wrist, with tear drops behind action and terminates with a checkered horn buttplate. CONDITION: Very good as found. Appears mostly original except for the hammers which are unengraved replacements and right hammer screw is modern. Barrels retain about 70% original pattern. Bores are bright and shiny. Checkering has worn smooth, but is still more than half visible. Action toned grey with some spotting. Stocks with various marks and scratches but appear mostly sound with the exception of an ancient gain separation running from the right side of the tang to the checkering. Action is a touch loose. This rare gun is worthy of a great Lefever collection.
