First variation Type 44 manufactured by Koishikawa, no series marking. Assembly numbers on bolt, cocking knob, firing pin, rear sight, and bayonet stud band are all matching. Correct first variation bayonet housing. Trigger, floorplate release, rear sight spring, and bolt release spring have correct early variation strawed finish. Correct early two hole butt trap, cleaning rod not present. Mum is completely intact. Inspector markings are present on bottom of buttstock. Dust cover does not match. CONDITION: Blued components retain bountiful to near new amounts of blue finish, with most wear being on the buttplate. Light wear to bolt release housing. Dust cover has turned a dark patina and shows small areas of pitting. Bolt is in the white. Strawed components show thinning. Markings on receiver are crisp. Internal metal components still retain cosmoline. Stock is very good, showing minor scattered handling marks. Good bright bore with strong rifling throughout. Mechanically excellent. A fine example of an early Type 44 carbine that is sure to be an attractive addition to any Japanese WWII enthusiast's collection.
