This pre-Revolutionary War period musket features a tapered round smoothbore barrel. The banana lock is flat, with beveled edges and moulding at the tail. The center is stamped with a crown over a shield in a small cartouche. There is an unusual frizzen spring reinforcement bar between the frizzen and the spring. The hardware is iron and of Germanic or Continental style. The musket features a curled trigger and a full length partially figured walnut stock with a carved concave cheek rest on the left side of the butt. Complete with iron ramrod - which is probably a later replacement - and triangular socket bayonet stamped with an "R" at the top of the blade. CONDITION: All iron components have been heavily cleaned, leaving a bright, pitted finish throughout. Lock appears to be in original flintlock configuration, but the frizzen is probably replaced. Stock is very good with some minor wormholes, wear, and marks from use. Bayonet also cleaned bright, with some darker spots.
