29" Laminated steel barrels are engraved "Williams & Powell Patentees 25 South Castle St Liverpool" and "Converted By W. B. Barratt. Burton on Trent" on medium game rib. A shoe lump has been added and bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs. Case hardened action with right side lever is fitted with original percussion non-rebounding locks having round bodied serpentine hammers. Action and locks are scroll engraved. There are pairs of dogs at tails of each lockplate. Trigger guard is also engraved with dogs and birds. Serial number is on tang. Nicely marbled and fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over steel buttplate with long top tang. Matching splinter forend attaches to barrels with sliding side bolt through shaped steel escutcheons. Gun is housed in what appears to be its original mahogany case with inlet D-handle lined in green cloth with old paper Williams & Powell label in lid. Barrels have most of an old brown finish. Walls at front part of chambers are under .090. Action and locks have a considerable amount of newer case hardening color most likely applied at time of conversion. Stocks have numerous marks and dents in old oil refinish. Checkering worn. Bores are good with scattered pitting. Action is tight. Locks are fine. Case has some cracks in lid, with a missing piece at rear. Interior cloth is good. Label is oil soaked, foxed, and with areas rubbed through. MGM44.
