Rounded swamped iron barrel with flat panel on top near breech with engraved border and English view and proof marks on left side of hooked breech. Brass bead mounted on top near swamped muzzle. Flat lockplate inscribed "Wickley" in the center and features an early roller frizzen. Engraved brass furniture includes a trigger guard with a large acorn finial, a full sideplate, and a three stage buttplate tang. The fowler features a half stock of plain walnut with checkered wrist in the early fashion, and a horn forend cap. Complete with probably its original brass tipped wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Good to very good. Barrel retains a dark patina with some applied dark finish and scattered areas of minor corrosion. Iron rib below has been repaired near top ferrule. Top two brass ferrules have been replaced. Touch hole shows some corrosion and has been relined. Lock is strong and functions well, appears to be in its original flintlock configuration with dark patina and some scattered freckling. Brass furniture retains a mellow patina and shows some wear and scattered marks from use. Stock is very good with an added coat of varnish, some minor wear to checkering, a few scattered marks from use, a crack along bottom of forearm and a minor chip in front of lockplate. This is a very nice large bore English fowler with a homogeneous look. DLM
