For a similar example with these markings, see page 89 of "Swords and Sword Makers of the War of 1812" by Richard H. Bezdek. The wide slightly curved blade has a false edge and a wide shallow fuller on each side. The spine, toward the hilt is marked "Sold by C & J.D. Wolfe, New York". This company were military dealers in the War of 1812 period. The iron reverse 'P' hilt has languettes and bird head pommel. Black leather wrapped grip. Complete with its original iron scabbard. Blade retains a light grey patina with some darker spotting and a couple nicks to edge, some sharpening marks. Markings are crisp. Hilt retains a dark heavy patina and grip shows some losses to leather and exposed wood. Scabbard retains a heavy brown patina. A very scarce retailer marked cavalry saber. DMG.
