Probably circa 1800-1810. For a similar example, see page 94 of "Swords and Sword Maker's of the War of 1812" by Richard H. Bezdek. Slightly curved blade with false edge and wide partial fuller on each side. Spine stamped deeply "W. ROSE". Original Moroccan leather washer. Brass reverse 'P' hilt with bird head pommel. Ebony grip with bulbous sections and decorated with twisted brass wire. Complete with original black leather scabbard with tooled lines and brass mounts. CONDITION: Blade retains a mottled grey patina with a couple nicks to edge, towards tip. Markings excellent. Hilt retains a dark, unpolished mustard patina. Grip shows some age cracks, loose wire wrap, and some missing wire. Scabbard excellent with some minor cracking and crazing to finish. Mounts retain a patina matching the hilt. A very attractive "Rose" marked sword. DMG. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
