Lot consists of: light artillery officer saber with thin 1872 type blade and 1840 type hilt, presentation 1872 officer's sword, and 1902 officer's sword. (A) 1840 style artillery officer's hilt, floral motifs on pommel cap and pommel, geometric on knuckle bow and guard. J.H. Wilson Philadelphia dealer address etched on reverse false ricasso. Etched with floral scrolls, display of arms and U.S.; obverse with scrolls, arms, American eagle with spread wings and motto ribbon. Wilson was in business from 1873 to 1895 when it changed name. The heaviness of the hilt and unstopped fuller of thin blade suggest Sauerbier. Scabbard is standard 1872 pattern. CONDITION: Good. Freckling to plating of blade and scabbard body. (B) 1872 officer sword of standard pattern. Ridabock, New York, dealer name on reverse ricasso. Gold washed etched blade: "Presented to Major Wm. B. Mason by the members of Co. F 4th NGNJ" obverse; arms, scrolls and "NJ" reverse. Steel scabbard with openwork brass mounts. CONDITION: Good. Brass elements have dark patina with rubbing on high points. Gold wash is thin, subdued and shows rubbing, blade shows grey, but etching is visible and presentation clear. Brown spots upper blade reverse. A few along lower edge of inscription. Scabbard good. (C) Regulation 1902 sword for all officers. Bight metal. NS Meyer Inc. trademark, "Stainless / Spain." CONDITION: Excellent. Bright steel, vivid etching, good grip. Excellent scabbard. 1902 pattern, but recent vintage. SR. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
