This model was manufactured between 1808 and 1814. Only 3,943 were made and they are very similar to the 2nd Model swords, except with slightly shorter and less curved blades. For another example, see page 88 of "Swords and Sword Makers of the War of 1812" by Richard H. Bezdek. Standard single edged slightly curved blade with two fullers on each side. Standard seven slot hilt with birds head pommel and six section leather wrapped grip with strand of brass wire. Complete with its original iron scabbard. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with scattered areas of corrosion and nicks to cutting edge. Hilt retains a brown surface with scattered pitting. Grip excellent showing some crazing to surface. Scabbard has been repainted and shows some minor denting. A nice southern cavalry saber. DMG. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
