Last quarter 19th century. England. This quality set comprised of two armchairs and eight side chairs, each with shell crest and molded sweptback ears above the intricately pierced splat with C-Scrolls and foliate carving joined to the trapezoidal serpentine seat frame with polychrome patterned slip seat covers. The molded and chamfered legs are joined by H-form stretchers. Each chair of the set is numbered. The armchairs with incurved arms, knuckled hand grips and inturned supports. All retain the original hand finished surface, with rich color and without wear or blemishes. Originally purchased from Alan Y. Roberts Antiques, Inc. by the current owner and consignor.
