Third quarter 20th century. The chess pieces represent figural armies of the French and English at the Battle of Waterloo. The complete set includes 32 pieces and a matching gilt metal mounted onyx chessboard rising on cannon supports. The figures are gold and silver gilt enameled finish and correspond with the frieze around the board itself and the cannon supports are similarly gilt metal. Size: board - 4 - 1/2" T. x 24" sq. figures - range from 5 - 3/4" to 4 - 1/2" T. Condition: The chessboard has a stress crack running from one side of the board completely to the opposing side, where it splits into a Y-form crack. Board remains stable, however the crack is visible in its entire length across the board. Otherwise board is intact and figures are all in very good condition with no observable damage.
