This Colt Buntline Special is a single action, six-shot revolver that is chambered in .45 Long Colt with an impressive 12" barrel. The revolver is 2nd generation and manufactured between 1956-1975. This pistol has a pretty unique origin story as it was first described by Stuart lake in his 1931 biography of Wyatt Earp. He stated that a novelist named Edward Zane Carroll Judson, Sr. who's pseudonym was Ned Buntline had commissioned these firearms as a repayment for frontier yarns and eventually gave five Buntlines to famous lawmen, which included Wyatt Earp. The revolvers were designed with the extra long barrel in hopes that it would steady the shot. Even though this is considered legend and there is no tangible proof, Colt took advantage of this and began to produce these revolvers through the course of three generations. The left side of the barrel reads, "COLT BUNTLINE SPECIAL .45" and the left side of the frame reads, "PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 JULY 2, 72 JAN. 18, 75." with Rampant Colt logo engraved to the right of the two block text. Since then there have been many companies that have made replicas of the 12" configuration. CONDITION: The overall condition of this firearm is nearly perfect. It holds nearly 92% - 95% of the original blue finish and is casehardened. The original grips are made of hard rubber with diamond checkered pattern, Rampant Colt logo, and the Great Seal of the United States. The cylinder has a tight lock-up and all of the parts are in perfect working order. The barrel has sharp rifling and shows minimal wear. There are virtually zero blemishes or scratches on the firearm and grips. The only true sign of wear is on the right side of the frame where you will see light wear on the bluing. SS
