Serial number 227488, manufactured in 1901. 26" half octagon to round barrel with button magazine. Marked with Winchester two-line address and caliber marking "38-55" at the beech. Standard front an rear barrel sights. Plain walnut stock with rifle crescent style butt-plate. Plain trigger. Tang marked three-line "MODEL 1894/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK". Winchester proof marks on receiver and breech of barrel. CONDITION: Fine overall, partially restored. Approximately 98%+ bright heavy blue on receiver with nearly all the bright "peacock" blue on loading gate. Nearly all refinished case color on lever, hammer, and butt-plate. All screws have a spurious case color finish. 98% spurious blue/brown finish on barrel. Bore is decent with scattered pitting. Restored stock and forearm are nearly mint showing light wear. Overall a very attractive rifle in a scarce configuration. Restoration work could possibly be Winchester work, explaining proof marks on barrel and frame, as the factory did not begin proof marking rifles until 1905. -MKS-
