Only 1,000 of these guns were produced, under contract for the Federal Government in 1864 for use during the Civil War. Standard three band configuration. Well marked on the top of the breech "LINDSAY/ PATENT/D.OCT.9.1860". These guns featured two hammers which were fired sequentially with a single trigger. Designed to fire a superposed load, these guns did not receive favorable reports in the field. These guns were known to have been issued to the 5th, 16th & 23rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry regiments, as well as the 9th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. CONDITION: Fine, having been very lightly cleaned at some point in the past. All markings are sharp and clear. Wood is very fine with some very minor handling marks and sharp cartouches. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling. Fine mechanical function. This gun does not show any indication of having been issued. GR
