2,000 of these guns were made under contract for the British government by the Massachusetts Arms Company in Chicopee Falls. Made between 1855 and 1857 for use during the Crimean Wars. Due to the scarcity of the American contract Greene carbines, these are generally considered a secondary martial Civil War carbine, however no documentation of any of the British guns being used in the Civil War exists. British proofs throughout and a crown over "VxR" on the lock. CONDITION: Retains an even patina overall with some original blue on the barrel, breech and lower tang. Some pitting present. Markings are clear. The patchbox has been refinished. Wood is fine with light handling marks. Bore is excellent with bright sharp rifling. Fine mechanical function. GR
