This is a standard 1850's era double barrel brass pistol, made in Belgium with a Liege proof on the left side of the barrel. Plain wood grip. Octagonal barrels. What's interesting is that this gun is marked "AB GRISWOLD" on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the Liege proof. AB Griswold & Company was established in 1865 out of the remnants of the Thomas, Griswold & Co. in New Orleans. They were known arms merchants and silversmiths at the time, and this is the exact same marking found on various pieces of silver which had passed through the companies hands. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing patina overall with some dings and handling marks. Light engraving on frame and trigger guard is clear. Markings on left side of gun are clear. Both nipples are more modern replacements. Good mechanical function. Wood grip has some light handling marks. All in all a very presentable post-Civil War gun that was retailed by a famous New Orleans firm known for supplying Confederate troops. GR
