The rare horse armour made in two pieces with the nose guard attached with leather and held with three steel rivets. The eye protectors of good form with roped borders. The ear protectors en suite with the eye guards. A reinforce appears between the ear pieces. Elaborate engraved brass plume holder of later date. CONDITION: Bright metal overall with little or no corrosion. Interior with great age patination. The central plate of 16th century date. The eyes, ears, and other components of Victorian date. Chanfrons are collected by equine enthusiasts as well as armour collectors and this chanfron is ready to go on the wall as is. MZ
