Built by Springfield Armory under a royalty agreement with Remington Arms company. Manufactured in 1871-1872 with approximately 10,000 examples made. 36" full round barrel secured by two barrel bands, finished in the white with a case hardened Rolling Block style receiver. Plain walnut two piece stock. Receiver marked "U.S. Springfield 1872" with Eagle motif on right side and "Model 1871" on left side. No barrel address or serial numbers. CONDITION: Excellent overall with bright finish. Some staining on barrel muzzle. Receiver is a mottled grey patina with traces of case hardening. Bore is bright and clean. Action is tight and crisp. Stock shows clear inspector cartouches, with moderate wear, scattered dings and dents from use. Overall a fine example of a relatively scarce Springfield military rifle.-MKS-
